The Chester County Democratic Women’s Leadership Initiative (CCDWLI) was pleased to welcome four influential elected Democratic women, who have broken barriers to serve in public office, for their Spring Gala on Sunday, April 28, 2024.

“We were privileged to have U.S. Congresswoman Chrissy Houlahan, PA House Speaker Joanna McClinton, PA State Senator Carolyn Comitta, and Chester County Commissioner Marian Moskowitz for a panel discussion to review the priorities and challenges of these four influential elected women.  They spoke on a range of topics encompassing public policy issues from the local to the federal level, including the fight to preserve our democracy and ensure all Americans can exercise their right to vote,” said CCDWLI Chair and Co-Founder, Michele Vaughn.

Vaughn continued, “Pennsylvania stands out as a beacon of progress, led by women breaking barriers to serve in public office.  Congresswoman Chrissy Houlahan, PA House Speaker Joanna McClinton, PA State Senator Carolyn Comitta, and Chester County Commissioner are pioneering women who, as firsts in their categories, are redefining leadership for the Keystone State.   We were fortunate for the opportunity to learn about the journeys of these remarkable women steering Pennsylvania towards a brighter, more inclusive future.”

Congresswoman Houlahan talked about the numerous challenges she has faced since taking office including the importance of protecting our democracy.  PA House Speaker McClinton discussed the success of the PA House Democratic Caucus despite a slim, one seat majority.

State Senator Comitta expressed her passion for protecting environmental rights and education.  County Commissioner Moskowitz focused on her work to bring affordable housing and transportation improvements to Chester County.

The CCDWLI’s goal is to recognize women as the leaders they are at every level, and to support and encourage those who are willing to stand up and fight on the issues that matter to women and families.

Vaughn concluded, “Our hope is that these four influential women’s’ experiences will inspire current and future leaders, particularly women leaders, here in our community to stand up and make a difference on the issues about which they feel most passionately.”

The CCDWLI, founded in 2015, is a chapter of the Pennsylvania Federation of Democratic Women (PFDW).  In a short time, the CCDWLI has established a proven track record of success and has quickly become the state’s most successful PFDW chapters in Pennsylvania.
